Before dawn, police on horseback and on foot clad in riot gear swept into Occupy DC, arresting six protesters.
Police in yellow hazmat suits and masks moved through the tents, using poles to pick up used blankets, clothes and belongings; dropping them into trash bags.
David Schlosser, a spokesman for the U.S. Park Police, said in a statement that the park was being closed for “nuisance abatement.” Funny how peaceful protest is now seen as a “nuisance”. But then again, any dissent against the status quo always ends up being seen as a “nuisance”.

Occupy DC: Occupiers Unite

On Wednesday, December 7th, Occupy DC held a “Day of Action”, in which it called for “all occupiers in the DC Metro area to unite against the undue influence of money in politics”.

But, what would a protest be without the obligatory drum circle?

(This lasted for a minute and a half and occurred about 15 minutes prior to the big march)

The main event included a massive march of about 2,000 people.

The stormy weather wasn’t enough to deter the occupiers, who walked for more than two miles, escorted by several police cars, through the lobbying epicenter of America.

Today, there were 60 arrests, but during the three-odd hours I was there, I witnessed only peaceful protests, and no arrests.

To my knowledge, all of the arrests were due to non-violent resistance (protesters laying down in the street, etc.)

The police for the most part, kept themselves in check, even protecting the protesters from traffic that ran over barriers the occupiers had set up.

The video below is a brief montage of the the lead up to the march, as well as the march itself.

The Huffington Post has more info on the arrests HERE.
